Particularities of the Modal Analysis in the Study of Flexible Multibody Systems

Abstract

Modal analysis represents a powerful method to analyze the vibration of various types of mechanical systems. Using this method in the classic way is possible with certain approximations. In this paper, we propose an extension of this method for studying a multibody system (MBS) with flexible elements. The particular shape of the equations of motion, acquired for these mechanical systems, imposes precautions in the use of the method. We highlight the particularities of the equations that enable the use of the results obtained in the classic modal analysis.
