Abstract

This paper presents the design and numerical evaluation of a crash cushion that dissipates kinetic energy primarily through controlled friction. A multibody dynamic model was developed in SolidWorks Motion to simulate impact scenarios, friction interfaces, and structural response. Results demonstrate effective energy absorption, reduced peak deceleration, and stable stopping behavior. The study validates the concept and highlights the usefulness of motion-based simulation for preliminary safety system optimization and design comparison.
