Abstract

Damping in composite materials is an important factor in the proper functioning of structures that have composite materials as a component. As a general observation, it can be said that these structures absorb vibrations better because they have complex internal mechanisms for energy dissipation; however, this way of energy dissipation implies difficulties in performing calculations to determine the behavior of these materials. Models that help in modeling in this case are useful. In the paper, a method for determining the damping matrix using the least squares method for its approximation is presented. Once the damping matrix is obtained in this form, the calculation can be carried out using classical models and methods from modal analysis.
